Ethiopian Speciality Coffee is simply unique and natural because, they claim, its genetic heritage has remained intact over the centuries, making Ethiopia a largely organic coffee producer (95% of production consists of "Garden Coffee" and "Forest Coffee" and only the remaining 5% from plantations). Even today, wild coffee trees grow in the forest areas near Kaffa, the town where the word coffee originated.
This coffee comes from the Sidamo region in southern Ethiopia. This is a lush forest region in the Rift Valley. Thanks to the tropical altitude climate (this Ethiopian Sidamo is grown at an altitude between 1,800 and 2,200 meters) and abundant rainfall, the soil is very fertile and the coffee trees grow spontaneously on the mountain slopes or in garden coffees (small plots owned by the producers).
